SPORTSMEDIA'S RADIO NEWSROOM CLOSES: A MESSAGE FROM JONNY GOULD

On the last day of 2015, the curtain came down on an enterprise which diligently broadcast to millions of listeners across the UK and Europe everyday.

Through 24 years, Sportsmedia provided the radio industry with speech content funded by innovative editorialised sponsorship. Not advertorial - more a hybrid of sponsorship and PR which became a permanent fixture in over a hundred radio stations' output and provided year upon year of steady employment for its staff.

A combination of commercial factors means Sportsmedia is no longer viable and the daily operation based in the Queens Park newsroom and studios has closed down.

I'm immensely proud of Sportsmedia's achievements. With a staff amounting to no more than fifteen at its height, we packed a real punch covering hundreds of world class sports events from The Grand National to The Open, from Wimbledon to Cheltenham, Anfield to The Oval, Wembley to Paris to Plumpton to Gothenburg to Sheffield to Barcelona - even Frimley Green, we were there!

From the client list, a who's who of international brands. Coca Cola, McDonald's, VISA, Samsung, Budweiser, Barclays, Hewlett Packard, Global, Sky, Bloomberg, ESPN. The list is long.

To my many. many clients, thank you for your friendship, camaraderie and custom. You gave us a lot to do - and it was a pleasure!

But it's loyal staff who deserve the biggest accolade. From our studios, firstly in North Kensington then Queens Park, they provided literally millions of bespoke broadcasts impacting billions of times to an audience of tens of millions.

Many a talented young reporter cut their teeth at Sportsmedia including prominent national broadcasters today like Vassos Alexander, Andy Burton, Gideon Coe, David Garrido, Russ Hargreaves, Kevin Hatchard and the Moose, Ian Abrahams to name but a few! We remember the late Jon Myers at this time.

And Sportsmedia provided so many life opportunities for me too. A fast track for unrivalled knowledge and experience - even status. I'm very grateful for every moment of it.

It's not entirely the end. Sportsmedia and Businessmedia's twitter feeds of audio and text content remain and special event presentation & production is open to discuss new projects.

And personally, I'm not done with the radio industry either. It's only January but there are already number of exciting opportunities on the table for me to ponder.

But this is a note of gratitude to thank you sincerely for helping, joining and enriching me on this journey - and for those coming with me at this fork in the road, I'll see you soon!

Kind regards,

Jonny Gould.
